Payson Fire Rescue Volunteer crews extinguish fire at former post office

PAYSON — An early morning fire in a former post office building required fire crews from Payson and Salem to extinguish.
Payson Fire Rescue responded to the fire at 97 S. 100 East shortly after 1:00 a.m. early Saturday morning after witnesses called 911 to report flames shooting out of the building. The volunteer crews battled freezing temperatures to put down the fire in about 20 minutes.
No one was injured in the fire and the cause is under investigation.
The building was built in 1967 as a post office but was later sold and converted to a private business. The building had been vacant for several months following the death of the owner in a car accident, according to Assistant Fire Chief Terry Reilly.
